Special Education Unit
Mt Roskill Intermediate School's Special Education Unit was established in 1976 as a Physically Disabled Unit. It has 3 teachers and a Special Education Assistant to cater for the individual needs of disabled children within and attached to the Unit. Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and a Speech Language Therapist are also on the Unit staff. Staff are supported by a team of teacher aides.
There is a heavy emphasis upon building self-confidence and independent work habits to allow students the opportunity to be partially or fully mainstreamed. The Unit has the flexibility to cater for a wide range of disabilities and special needs. Individual programmes allow all students to benefit academically, physically, socially and emotionally.
