Thank you for taking the time to find out more about our school.  Adolescence is an extremely important period in a child's life and we would enjoy working with you to ensure your child has all the skills and attributes to be successful now and in the future.

Intermediate school is all about building independence in our students.  They must learn to be responsible for their learning and for their interactions within their school and home.  We have a number of programmes and initiatives in place to ensure that our students build on and develop strong values to live by.  We want them to leave our school as confident and articulate young men and women who will really thrive in a secondary school environment.

At Mt Roskill Intermediate our primary focus is on academic success.  Our  recent ERO report noted the settled and focused nature of our classrooms and the excellent resources the school has to support and extend learning.  Teachers have high expectations for learning and behaviour in their rooms.  This allows students to make the most of their learning opportunities and to really focus on becoming a responsible and successful learner.

Physical activity is also very important for children of this age.  Our new state of the art gymnasium, a swimming pool and extensive fields allow our students maximum opportunities to develop their sporting skills and abilities.  Cultural activity is also an important component of a good education and our Arts Centre with teachers of music, drama and the visual arts gives children the chance to create and share their talents in this area.

The modern world requires students to be highly skilled users of Information Technology.  Your child will have access to some of the most modern computers and software available.  The use of digital cameras and recording devices, along with the Internet, will allow our students to find new information and also present information in new and exciting ways that will support and extend their learning.

We are looking forward to building a strong and lasting relationship with your family as your child moves through our school.  I look forward to meeting you in the near future.

Kind regards

Mike O'Reilly
